Several teachers and students from KIS and a dive team from Chalong Seasport joined forces in an attempt to clean a big pile of foam and plastic at Yanui Beach.
Throughout the morning teachers and several KIS students gathered approximately half a ton of debris while Chalong Seasport searched the sea for rubbish.
Walter (yr6 student at KIS) showed excellent effort as he helped with diving, being one of the youngest divers in the community. Remarkable findings were buckets filled with concrete and rope, different boat parts and a cracked surfboard.
Another reason for hosting this event was to create awareness within the Phuket society to keep our beaches clean. It was good to see that during the beach clean-up several tourists decided to help as well.
The majority of the rubbish consisted of plastic picnic bags left by beach visitors, pieces of foam, plastic and glass bottles. After the beach clean-up the Rawai OrBorTor cleared the area and took the debris away with one of their garbage trucks.
This event was part of the bigger GO ECO Phuket beach clean-up which is hosted on the 4th of December on Karon Beach.
