Plans for the generation of electricity from nuclear power plants has been scaled down from 10 per cent to 5 per cent of all energy production.
Energy Minister Arak Chonlatanon said, after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, that construction of the first planned nuclear power plant has also been postponed for three years, from 2023 to 2026.
Before the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, in March last year, Thailand had planned to build nuclear power plants in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Surat Thani, Trat, Nakhon Sawan and Ubon Ratchathani.
