The arrests arose from a complaint made on February 28 by Uraiwan Bua’ngeun that she had been robbed while riding home from a shopping trip to the Supercheap branch in Bandon.

A motorbike came up behind her, she said, driven by a man with a woman riding behind him. As they came alongside, the woman reached across and snatched her gold necklace before the duo accelerated away.

Ms Uraiwan described the robbers to police, who recognised them as Aphiwat Bootmanee, 21, and his girlfriend, Rudima Sumeng, 22, who were already sought on charges of stealing a motorbike in Thalang and possession of drugs in Cherng Talay.

Officers caught up with Rudima on March 7. Information she gave them led to the arrest of Aphiwat at a house in Koh Keaw on Friday (March 15).

They are currently being held in Phuket Provincial Prison, awaiting trial.
