Police made their way to the Metro Condotel Complex located at the far-end of Jomtien Beach and to the 28th floor apartment of Gunther Kiem, aged 66. He was lying on the floor and had suffered a stab wound through his left shoulder-blade.
There were no signs of a struggle inside the apartment and it appeared that a laptop computer had been stolen, as a power unit for the computer was found still plugged-in. Large amounts of Thai and Euro currency were found in the room.
Staff mentioned how Mr Kiem would take many different women back to his apartment and on December 8, security guards claimed five women accompanied him to the apartment. Mr Kiem had not been seen since December 11 when the apparent murder is thought to have occurred.
The CCTV system at the condominium was non-operative leaving police frustrated at the lack of evidence available to them in this case. The German Embassy in Bangkok have been made aware and are assisting Pattaya Police with the murder investigation.
