Police were called to the scene, where they found Simmet Iranz, 51, dead on his bed. They found two bottles of beer on the ground and and bloodstains in the bed, but Mr Iranz had no visible signs of injury.
The hotel receptionist told police that Mr Iranz had stayed at the hotel for a month, and had a serious cough. His doctor had advised him to stop drinking alcohol, the receptionist said.
Kathu police Captain Teerapong Luamg-on said he did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances, and said the bloodstain may have been from his cough.
His body has been sent to Patong Hospital.
