The alleged theft took place at Gulliver’s Pub & Restaurant at the northern end of Pattaya Beach Road when the venue was closed.
The manager Khun Banjarat, aged 34, arrived later on Sunday morning to open the restaurant and saw that a burglary had taken place and only the cigarettes had been taken.
She looked at CCTV images and spotted a foreign man breaking-in and stealing the items.
On Sunday night, she spotted the suspect, later named as Michael Ederer, walking past the restaurant and called the police who arrested him and took him to Pattaya Police Station, where he confirmed he had lived in Pattaya for one year and had run out of money.
He intended to sell the cigarettes and use the money to rebuild his life in Thailand.
The man is now behind bars on a charge of burglary and awaits a court appearance.
