Fundraiser ball promises evening of Bliss

PHUKET: Close your eyes and picture the scene.

Friday 30 March 2012, 10:55AM

You drive down a path through a field, arriving at an oasis on the water. As you walk up, an explosion of colour, making it seem as though the ocean has crawled out and taken over the Bliss Beach Club.

As you enter, you are transported to a different world. Sit down for dinner let the music soothe your soul while the four course meal sets your taste buds aglow. Pjae Stanley and Jay Leshark will have you grooving before you know it, but the music and food are only part of what will set this night apart from any other. The rest of the night is filled with excitement you must see to believe.

You wake up the next morning knowing that your night was one you will never forget and your conscience will be at ease knowing it was all for a good cause. No it wasn’t a dream, it was the Bliss Beach Ball.

Now for the important part. The who: 200 ocean-themed dressed ladies and gentlemen. The what: Bliss Beach Ball. The where: Bliss Beach Club in Bang Tao. The when: Friday April 27. The price: B2,500.

And now, most important, the why: This is a fundraiser for Phuket Has Been Good To Us, a small foundation that teaches English in two government schools here on the island. Established after the 2004 Asian Tsunami, PHBGTU is a Thai registered charity which aims to foster vocational opportunities for Thai children through English.

They teach English to over 850 children in Phuket. They aim to provide the best possible English-language education by placing qualified, fluent, English speaking teachers in classrooms. They help Thai youths become capable and confident English speakers so they can secure themselves well-paid employment in the future.
