Originally from South Africa, Mr Ashby has been living in Phuket for eight years and is an avid sailor and “known and loved throughout the expat community”, says friend Ali Goebel.
Mr Ashby now requires immediate surgery and treatment that will cost from B400,000 to B500,000, and he has no medical insurance.
“Our beautiful friend Kevin, much loved by [his wife] Frances, his family, friends and all his mates in the sailing community, is facing the fight of his life,” says Mrs Goebel.
“It’s time for all who know and love Kevin to help him as much as we can. Kevin’s prognosis is great and he will survive this so long as he gets the treatment now.
“We need to pull together at this time and give generously in order to raise the money needed to get Kevin the treatment he requires.
“Everyone who knows Kevin knows that one never has to ask him for help as he is always the first to step up and offer it before being asked. It’s now time to pay Kevin back in spades.”
Mr Ashby has sailed in many Phuket regattas on board boats such as Delphina 2, EOS, Miss Saigon, Millennium and Babe, and competed in the Phang Nga Bay Regatta, Phuket Race Week, The King’s Cup Regatta and many Ao Chalong Yacht Club races over the last 12 years.
