Faldo Series incoming

GOLF: The inaugural Faldo Series Thailand Championship [South], will be staged at Laguna Golf Phuket, from September 8-11.

Open to all junior golfers aged 12–21 years old holding a USGA or nationally recognised handicap, the championship will consist of 54 holes (three rounds). Each age-group winner of the championship will earn themselves places in the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Laguna Lang Co in Danang, Vietnam, in March, 2017.

Assistant Vice President, Group Golf Director, Paul Wilson, said, “Laguna Golf Phuket is thrilled to bring a second Faldo Series qualifying championship to The Kingdom of Thailand.

“Laguna Golf is committed to supporting junior golf development, helping to nurture the future golfing stars of tomorrow. Our Laguna Golf brand ambassador, Sir Nick Faldo, was very impressed with the newly upgraded facilities. We are thankful to Sir Nick for allowing Laguna Golf Phuket to create this Faldo Series Thailand Championship [South], encouraging junior golfers from around Thailand and other neighbouring countries to compete together,” he said.

The event has been endorsed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Phuket Golf Association. Angsana Laguna Phuket is the official preferred hotel, offering exclusive room rates to all participants. Bangkok Airways are also onboard and will be providing the winners with return airfares to the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in Laguna Lang Co, and The Phuket News has joined as the events’ official media partner.

Furthermore, in making this event a 54-hole tournament, all participants will qualify for official World Amateur Ranking Points.

Supported by The R&A and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the 2016-17 Faldo Series Asia campaign stretches over 11 months. As well as three events in China and two each in India and Thailand, championships will be staged in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.

All age-group winners progress to the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, where they will receive hands on training from Sir Nick Faldo and compete in the 54-hole championship event.

Championship Format

• 54 hole stroke play event. Three rounds played over September 9, 10 and 11 at Laguna Golf Phuket.

• Open to amateur golfers aged 12 – 21 on the January 1, 2016, holding a valid USGA or nationally recognised handicap.

• Players will be divided into five age divisions based in their actual age on January 1, 2016. (Boys U21, U18 and U16. Girls U16 and U21).

• Entry to the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final – held in Laguna Lang Co, Danang, Vietnam, in early March 2017 is awarded to each of the five age division winners. Final results also count towards official World Amateur Rankings.

• Faldo Series “Grass Roots” Clinic – with local school kids

• Practice with the Pro’s session for tournament players

Friday September 9

• Day 1 Tee Times 07.30 – 11.30 (1st tee start)

• Practice with the Pro’s session for tournament players

Saturday September 10

• Day 2 Tee Times 07.30 – 11.30 (1st tee start)

• Practice with the Pro’s session for tournament players

Sunday September 11

• Day 3 Tee Times 07.00 – 09.00 (1st & 10th tee start)

• Players Buffet Lunch

• Prize Presentation & Awards Ceremony
