Day of glory: 7 gold medals for Phuket
What a difference a day makes: In 24 short hours Phuket has jumped from 19th to 9th place in the 2012 Phuket Youth Games.

Phuket’s wonderful day of winning began early yesterday morning (May 31) when the Phuket Boy’s Golf team won gold with their combined (4 players) top score of 865.
Phuket biker Taikom Chitmat also beat Lopburi and Ubon Ratchathani bikers by seconds in a thrilling Road Inline Race . His time was 3hrs 4mins 11sec.
In addition, Phuket also gained five more gold medals in the Karate competition. Three from the boys’ team, aged 9-14, two from the girls’ team aged 9-14 and the final from the girls’ team aged 15-18.
This year’s Phuket Youth Karate team proved strong with two silvers also being awarded to the boy’s Karate team aged 15-18.
Four final bronze medals were awarded to golfer Watcharatorn Jirapatcharasin, Karate kid Papob Panyasirikul, Taekwondo boy Anupong Sornjit and the 100 metre free style swimmer Kanyapak Sorsakul.
Phuket’s medal tally now stands at 21 medals, which brings them to a respectable 9th in the table.
The Top Ten provinces as of today (June 1) are:
Bangkok: 53 gold, 34 silver, 35 bronze
Chonburi: 22 gold, 21 silver, 15 bronze
Nakhon Sri Thammarat: 21 gold, 15 silver, 6 bronze
Suphanburi: 19 gold, 26 silver, 21 bronze
Chiang Mai: 18 gold, 26 silver, 26 bronze
Samut Prakan: 14 gold, 16 silver, 21 bronze
Suratthani: 13 gold, 9 silver, 8 bronze
Khonkaen: 12 gold, 13 silver, 14 bronze
Phuket: 11 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze
Chantaburi: 9 gold, 5 silver, 7 bronze
