The music video En Vecka I Phuket (A Week in Phuket) chronicles rapper/comedian Markoolio’s time on the island, from arriving at the airport, riding a tuk-tuk to his hotel, chilling poolside, enjoying cocktails, and finally catching another tuk-tuk to Patong (how else is he going to get around?) where he gets up to all manner of Phuket-based activities.

Markoolio (a combination of his real name, Marko, with that of American rapper Coolio) goes to the beach, has a massage, parties hard, and finally gets knocked out by a little Swedish girl in a Muay Thai ring. The video ends with him releasing a ‘lucky balloon’ into the night sky.

While some people’s comments on YouTube have questioned the accuracy of how Phuket is represented, most see it as a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously. And one thing is sure: it’s great promotion for the island.

This is the second time this year that a Phuket-theme song on YouTube has gone viral. The first was My First Hardcore Song by eight-year-old Australian girl Julia Childs. She wears the same T-shirt as Markoolio. See here for that one.
