The websites Coconuts Bangkok and Coconuts Manila have been combined under one URL (coconuts.co) and redesigned to feature:
1/ Adaptive optimisation for mobile, tablet, and desktop
2/ An easy function for readers to submit user-generated content
3/ A gamification system that awards readers who actively participate with the site’s content
Coconuts.co is a network of local news and lifestyle websites that harnesses user-generated content and social media to enhance coverage of an urban area.
Byron Perry launched Coconuts Bangkok in September 2011 and ran it with a minimum budget out of his apartment until September 2012, when he received seed funding from private investors in Silicon Valley.
With this investment, Coconuts Manila was launched in November 2012 and Coconuts Media, the corporate entity behind the websites, moved into a shophouse office in Bangkok.
