Boat crashes, however, are rather more rare on this particular stretch of road.
But that’s what happened this morning when a large tour company speedboat on a trailer lurched off the bypass next to the Keehin store. No one was hurt.
An employee of the speedboat company, Sarina Boat Tours, told the Phuket News that the trailer, being towed behind a pick-up truck, slid on the wet road after a downpour and ended up in the ditch on the left of the northbound carriageway.
A crane was called to lift the speedboat onto a fresh trailer. The boat appeared to have suffered no more than a few scrapes to its hull but the employee said that it would be carefully checked for structural damage before being put back in the water.
