Bangkok bag overall crown at Chiang Mai games

NATIONAL GAMES: Bangkok comfortably retained the overall crown at Thailand’s 41st National Games, which ended in Chiang Mai yesterday.

The capital city claimed 100 golds with second-placed Chon Buri winning 65 and third-ranked Suphan Buri 52.

Bangkok swept both golds in basketball with their men beating Prathum Thani 82-69 and their women defeating Ang Thong 68-48.

In rugby, Surin beat hosts Chiang Mai 36-15 in the final.

In sepak takraw, Chon Buri won gold in the women’s team event after beating Roi Et 2-1 in the final, while Pathum Thani beat Nakhon Ratchasima 2-0 in the men’s final.

In futsal, Suphan Buri defeated Bangkok 5-2 in the women’s final, while Samut Sakhon beat Si Sa Ket 3-1 in the men’s gold medal match.

In aerobic gymnastics, Bangkok’s Chanawit Thongdee won the men’s individual title and Chon Buri’s Roypim Ngarmpeerapong was champion in the women’s individual event.

In six-red snooker, Trang’s Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn defeated Chiang Mai’s Supoj Sanglah 4-1 in the singles final.

The 42nd National Games will be held in Suphan Buri from Jan 5-15, 2014.
