What can we expect from your ‘Some Like It Hot’ fashion show at the launch of the new Foxy Friday event at Xana Beach Club with Attica?
A totally glamorous vintage show with lots of colour and many new pieces never shown before! There will also be some surprise elements for dramatic effect.
You are about to launch your own fashion line, tell us about that.
My own line is both high in fashion with styles, prints and accessories, but still at a relatively low price. We hope fashionistas as well as every day mothers (like myself) will find their favourites in the line.
What are your top tips for dressing for the beach?
That is all depending on the mood... sometime it is colour splash and going for a bit of a tan, and then the strapless bandeau allows less tan stripes on the chest.
I also like to mix and match, so a printed top to a solid pant is a younger style. At my age, we need all the help we can get!
But mostly I stay in the shade and prefer a little more cover, like a short caftan over a halter bikini, and also including a hat.
What are the three essentials you can’t go on holiday without?
Self tanning products (I am quite sensitive to sun), a great book (I love to read but don’t allow myself to when busy at home or with work) and my playful family.
What swimwear designers are hot right now?
I have to mention Molly Grad at Gottex, she is extremely talented and had worked at some of the best houses before (Stella McCartney, YSL and others). I would love to be in the room when she does one of her drawings!
And of course there are some really cool ones in the US including Amahlia Stevens for Vitamin A, and Bonnie Coumbe from Australia with her magical Seventh Wonderland.
Any tips for covering up but still looking glamorous?
Oh yes, it is surely easier to look glamorous with a coverup than without. Gottex has the best ever long caftans in silk, they can include up to 26 colours and they move like magic around you in a breeze or when you walk.
What are your beach beauty secrets?
1. I always use a cream for my skin type. I don’t really like the UV sunblocks with unknown bad chemicals. Esthederm has great ones.
2. Cover your hair, as it gets really damaged by too much sun.
3. Without makeup is of course best, so I always dye my eyebrows and lashes to accentuate the eyes.
Which celebrities do you think get it right on the beach?
Oh that’s a tricky one, But of course somebody my own age is best to keep on top of the list, like Halle Berry, such a knock out, and cool person too!
And who doesn’t love Jessica Alba, she has the curves and the smile, and great skin.
Foxy Friday is a new fortnightly event, starting Friday (March 15), from Xana with Attica which features fun, food, fashion and more. The evening kicks off at 6pm and includes 2-for-1 cocktails for ladies all night, a sushi bar, entertainment for the kids and the Katalina 'Some Like it Hot' show at 9.30pm.
