After the meeting this morning (June 18) Gov Maitree said they had discussed security and transport issues that might affect Australians. He added that the meeting was warm and friendly.

“Mr Kenna came to discuss accidents, natural disasters and the results of terrorism; these were the specific security issues. We also discussed the issue of transportation. Mr Kenna demonstrated that he had a firm grasp of the issues, and understands that transportation and tourism issues are important.”

In fluent Thai Mr Kenna told media afterwards, “I care for the security of tourists in Phuket because of the many Australians who visit the island.

It was a great pleasure to meet Gov Maitree and I am sure we will have a good working relationship.”
