The Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, Pol Maj Gen Chonasit Wattanavrangkul gathered police to an emergency meeting yesterday (June 11) to investigate the case.
According to information from a police source, the Australian said she had hired a tuk-tuk near Soi Bangla to get back to her hotel after her night out.
Three men were in the tuk-tuk; two at the front and one on the back seat. The tourist reported that the tuk-tuk took her to a quiet spot on Patong beach where the three men raped her.
When she finally managed to leave the vehicle, she ran and hailed a motorbike taxi to deliver her to her hotel.
Once there, she allegedly vandalised objects in her room until hotel staff heard the noise and called police to the hotel, which was when the tourist told the police what had happened.
Police are investigating CCTV footage and questioning witnesses.
