General Jutti’s first visit was to a property development in Kathu. Initial investigation revealed that although correct protocol had been followed to begin building on the land, it was found that the structure, although currently incomplete, would have been built at an incline of more than 30 degrees, which exceeds the maximum amount allowed by the law.

The investigation team then headed to Nanai road in Patong. Checks revealed that the owner had acquired the land title legally but had not yet received permission to level the land or begin building. The case was thus reported to Kathu Police Station for further investigation.

Pol Maj Pongpichan Chayanonpiriya from Kathu Police Station who was called in to investigate told The Phuket News today, “We have to collect all the evidence and investigate whether the owner has asked for permission. We will call the relevant officers and people to give us more details and if they are wrong, then we will need to follow the law”.

The third spot visited was located near Paradise Beach in Patong. The Special Unit of the Ministry of Interior revealed that they were responding to a report that an area of the forest and local public road had been levelled to build a private resort. The newly built private road was in fact located in a SorPorGor area (government land), so the case has been sent to the SorPorGor department for the Land Office to investigate.

The last spot is on the Kamala curve, opposite Laem Singh beach. Again a newly built road has been found to have been constructed illegally and in this case has obstructed the public waterway and is also at an angle deemed too steep according to land building regulations. The Damrongtham Centre (ombudsman’s office) has thus proposed that the local authority destroy the road.

All four sites inspected today are therefore under further investigation and building has been halted.
